Issues with Porn!

It is a well-known fact that men watch pornography more than women. It’s not that women do not watch it as well, it is just that for some men the pornography that they watch is the only thing and or source that they have to go on and use for their knowledge of what sex should be like. It distorts the mens view on women, making it as if the woman should have a certain figure and should be able to do certain things. This view is unrealistic and should be shot down. Women are more than just sex and someone to make you a sandwich. If you have ever watched pornography or if you have ever even heard about pornography then you know the absurdness of it.  The circumstances behind the story lines are incredibly unrealistic. They go from a real life situation scene to suddenly turning into a scene where there are a lot of people fornicating with each other in a matter of minutes (if even). I am in no way saying that porn is bad, but I am saying that I do not agree with how it affects the standards for which people who watch it set for their partners. A woman who watches porn expects certain features in her partner, such as a massive (for lack of better term) “package.” Men who watch porn would want their partner to be ready to perform orally and/or be ready for anything. They also would want their woman to be in tip top shape. This is unfortunate because not everyone is the same (obviously) and everyone has their own body shape, and they are being degraded for not looking the way people think they should. …

  1. Kristen, you talk a lot about how porn can influence peoples' perceptions of women and can result in women having a negative self-image. But I find myself wondering why you chose porn. I feel that you could make the same argument with things that are even more pervasive in society: commercials, magazines, billboards, music videos, movies, sitcoms, posters, calenders, and the list goes on and on). Do you think that porn is really the problem? Do you think that porn might actually be less of an issue than, say, a television commercial to which all members of a house hold are a witness? I think that you are making a good point here, but I would like to know what your take is on the objectification of women when looking at the everyday things that all members of society are subjected to when it comes to the image of a woman.
